WrestleMania 23

WWE's WrestleMania is widely regarded by the sports-and-entertainment industry as THE great grandfather of all pay-per-view (PPV) events. 'Spectacular' and 'extravaganza' have, unsurprisingly, often been used to describe this annual 'Showcase of the Immortals'. The most memorable WM moment is, perhaps, Hulk Hogan bodyslamming the 500-pound Andre the Giant on March 29, 1987, before a capacity crowd of 93,173 at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan. Wham!

It was only my second time there and, quite frankly, I still miss the old building...

THE IRON LADIES

5Gay pride: These 'guniangs' prove that while they may be outcast in life, they can be outstanding in sports.

Homophobics (you know who you are) beware. THE IRON LADIES (or SATREE LEK), the Thai cinematic sensation that rocked Asia and the rest of the international film festival circuits, may very well put you off.
Based on true events (circa 1996), the movie centers on a ragtag men's volleyball team comprising mainly of transvestites, transsexuals and homosexuals. Now that's some bag of mixed nuts, if you ask me.
Did I like the show? Oh yes, very much!

Barney & Frenz @ HM

In lieu of something more momentous (as if!), I've decided to do Barney the anthropo-morphic Tyrannosaurus Rex. Snapped this foto @ Kovan's Heartland Mall a fortnight ago; thought I'd dispose of it here before it ends up in the dumpster.

That's right, what exactly do you call these toy dispenser thingies we tend to find in most shopping malls? Due to my oh-so-limited vocabulary and general knowledge, I seek all your brilliance and wisdom to enlighten me on this. Keke.

'Sadako' in Bookshop

Sadako Yamamura is sick and tired of subsisting on the small volcanic island of Oshima (let alone in that claustrophobic chasm), so she decides to explore life in the big city. Here, the Telekinetic One - carrier and all - is browsing in a bookstore. Methinks she has her peepers on that Stephen King book...

The Grave of Anneliese Michel

September 21, 1952 – July 1, 1976

Anneliese Michel was a Catholic woman from Germany who believed she was possessed by six or more demons and subsequently underwent an exorcism.

Two motion pictures, THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE and REQUIEM, are based on her story.

What is your take on Science vs. Religion?

Hey, I Know How to Make These!

Fried wonton fritters, right? They're not too hard to make. And you don't need to have a whole lot of filling (i.e. minced pork and coarsely diced shrimp) for the 'skin' itself is flavory on its own. My late granny used to make lots of these for dinner and little greedy me would devour them in a hurry! :-D

Same Difference

Is there really a difference between the two signs above5?
Well, if you think hard and blow enough neurons you'll probably arrive at this deduction: 'EXIT' is meant for people in general whereas 'OUT' is for vehicles (and me when I'm bounced from my boss' office).

Ayumi Hamasaki

Born in 1978, 28-year-old Japanese pop diva Ayumi Hamasaki celebrates her 8th annum in show business (she's been active in the scene since 1998) by releasing her 8th studio album Secret (under record label Avex Trax).
Even though I prefer Namie Amuro (the name Utada Hikaru has never crossed my mind), I respect
Ayu for being an abiding artist who truly deserves the divine appellation 'Empress of J-Pop'.

Pixar Potential?

Considering CARS is turning out to be a global cash cow (*moo*), Disney's Pixar Animation Studios may be looking to churn out a sequel for the car-toon. This time, perhaps, John Lasseter and his team could incorporate live action with CGI. Look at the front of this car. Doesn't it resemble the face of Astro Boy? Why am I wasting precious blog space posting lame entries like these? I wonder...

GOD OF GAMBLERS

5Showhand: Charismatic Chow Yun-Fat (as legendary Ko Chun) scores a Royal Flush with the HK$37 million grosser that IR enthusiasts here ought to study.

The Hong Kong cinema in its boom years saw an eclectic mixing and matching of genres as well as a penchant for pushing the boundaries of sensationalistic content.
In 1989, prolific filmmaker Wong Jing secured himself a spot in the H.K. moviedom when he wrote, produced and directed the definitive GOD OF GAMBLERS, which would proceed to shatter box office records and spawn several sequels and spin-offs.
The success of that picture (not surprisingly) sired a sudden interest in gambling, but we all know there is one - and only one - Du Shen.

He's the guy (just about) everyone loves to hate. He's the fat naked fella who can fish like a pro. Nevertheless, I still love Hatch - not that I'm a fag myself, but because the man played the game so well. As a matter-of-fact, none of the subsequent winners (Brian Heidik who??) even come close to Richie Rich's unimitable style and shrewd sagacity.

Wushu Whiz

The man is synonymous with kung fu. The former World Wushu Champion was talent-spotted during the 1997 Star Search finals because of his unique background. True enough, Vincent Ng's fighting feats were quickly put to good use when he starred alongside Chinese martial arts star Chiu Mun Chiok in the period drama HERO OF THE TIMES. His first big break as a vein-popping, Bruce Lee-wannabe in HAINAN KOPI TALES was his most tiring role to date, but it was worth all the hard work when he was voted one of the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes in Star Awards 2000. If the ex-commando is not fiddling his cudgel or chang quan, he can be seen wakeboarding and indulging in other sun-basking activities. (Source: Internet)
