While Jerry (look at him on the box!) was never a fan of Whiskas' 'poc-KETS' (as mom always likes to stress), Hogan and Mandy are. They obviously enjoy the taurine, omega oil, calcium and phosphorus that come with every (pungent) salmon pocket. Cats, of all pets, should know what's good for them!

Iggy Pop

How many of you here keep iguanas as pets? Probably not in Singapore (too exotic for us), but I understand it's a popular choice in the States. Similar to terrapins, these folivore reptiles feed on greens and - to the surprise of some - can get aggressive as they become larger in size.

Shouldn't it be "Pets Rule the World", instead? Never mind the insignificant article of speech, but the language's also a bit off, isn't it? Shall we ask Shiling 'cher to help confirm it? In any case, pets do rule the world!

SupaDog

Don't anticipate to see your doggy putting on a cape and flying around to save the world anyday soon. Hmm...chicken and garlic? Garlic?? Ain't that gonna make their already-stinky breaths even stinkier? :-X

Bunnay

Bunnies are, in my opinion, among the cutest of all domestic pets (although I keep cats) - let alone snoozing ones. They're always, like, so fluffy and huggable. Having said that, is it also true that bunnies are less affectionate than, say, kitties and puppies?

Vet Clinic

If I didn't interpret this sign incorrectly, this isn't your ordinary clinic for pets; instead, it's one specially meant for vets. Are we surprised? Even veterinarians require medical attention from time to time. After all, they're exposed to a myriad of germs and bacteria from sick animals on a day-to-day basis. Wait a minute, is this all but a big misconstruance?

Studio Mandi?

Here's Mandy Cat doing her best mimicry of Totoro-chan. In order for the youngest member of JHM to convincingly pass for Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli mascot, she definitely has to pile on more tiger prawns and...come to think of it, that's about all this fussy felina feeds on :-X

Nice Poochie Poochie~

What did this well-leashed American Eskimo Dog (am I wrong?) do to deserve a 'bruise' on its elbow? Been playful again, hur? Maybe it's in need of a nice scrubby shower - not in the sea, of course!

Aquarium

For those who disfavor feathered or four-legged (mammalian, as opposed to reptilian) pets, setting up a small 'aquatic terrarium' (AKA aquarium) in a corner of your house - or better yet, your room - can help alleviate some of your day's stress. Heard of animal-assisted therapy? Just don't get bettas or piranhas, yah? Fishkeepers take note.

Hiao Gao

Pet aficionados have no problem cutting corners on their own expenses so that they can splurge on their pampered pooches. I say, why not? In exchange for freedom and family, these animals don’t deserve anything less than our best. Time to doll up the dog and soak him in the scented bathtub!

Terter

It's easy to see why some households opt to keep sea turtles as pets. First of all, they're pretty innocuous animals (read: not noisy and with no offending smells). Furthermore, they're not hard to care for. Feed them food pellets and water spinach, and that's about it - right?

Handle with Care

Hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and white mice (did I hear some shrieks from the girls behind?) are very delicate creatures that people keep as pets. They need to be handled with much care and have their diets (e.g. sugar intake) monitored closely. Are you up to the task, Eager Beaver?

Collared Cat

Senior J hasn't been a particularly happy camper as of late. His left ear's giving him (and us owners) problems again. Under the circumstances, which details needn't be delved into, the displeased patriarch has no choice but to don a collar and be put on another course of antibiotics. Get well soon!

The Taming of a Minx

Every cat owner should know that kitties love to be massaged on the back of their necks. There's a large area of 'loose' flesh that can be 'grabbed' without causing pain - and it's precisely this Archilles' heel that allows a minx like Mandy to be tamed. See? It works!

Off to the Vet

While most weekenders were sleeping in on a Sunday morning, we had to shove Jerry into a steel cage and whisk him off in a cab to Mount Pleasant Animal Medical Centre in Clementi to consult the veterinarian on his profusely bleeding left ear. There, a Dr. Leslie Teo (who's a she) attended to us and said our cat was suffering from severe inflammation, which might be caused by formation of polyps. Further examination awaits.

The Truth About Cats & Dogs

It doesn't take a zoologist to tell you that there's some screwy size discrepancy in this diagram. Unless that's Hercules the English Mastiff and Bitsy the, um, stray, there's no friggin' way a cat can look so dwarfed by a dog. Right, folks??

He Purrs

All my three cats - Jerry, Hogan (pictured) and Mandy - have the habit of purring. No doubt that all domesticated cats do (as a display of contentment or anxiety), but Ah Gan - in particular - is fully capable of setting off the 'soliciting purr'. At least he doesn't knead much anymore.
