Little India
Got practically lost in Singapore's Little India (i.e. Serangoon) last Saturday (taxi uncle none the wiser). Was there with Liana for some community work at SINDA. Lovely place, I would say. We behaved like suaku tourists (snapping photos of temples and stuff) as we hadn't been around those parts before. Also enjoyed a nice breakfast of roti prata with iced Milo :-D

Best in Town
High time to get myself a new 3G phone or, better still, a proper digicam, because every damn food item that's being attemptedly photographed by my 1.2-megapixeler turns out the same (in color)! Grrr! Otherwise, this savory serving of fried hokkien prawn noodles from Beo Crescent will surely knock your socks off!

AFTER HOURS
Caught the pilot/premiere episode of Channel 5's new 'situational dramedy' AFTER HOURS on Monday night. A somewhat sequel to the engaging CHASE, the half-hour show about love, friendship, blah blah stars Utt and Linda Liao (who reprise their roles) together with Joanne Peh and Max Loong.
Not bad for starters, I would say. But where's Keegan Kang?

One for Each
Truth be told, there are many a peep in this world who, sadly, belong in one of these trash receptacles.4 People with paper-thin personalities, people with 'plastic' dispositions, erm...can somebody please help with out with the last??

Flightplan
Went to Changi Airport with my friend Christine on a sudden spur and whim - and on a late Friday night, mind you! (It was a good thing she drove.)
Strolled along Terminals 1 and 2 (took the Skytrain), and settled for some Popeye's snacks before heading back home.
Surreal!

The Gleam
Ooh...there's a mysterious gleam up in the elevator ceiling. Is it an orb? Or some camera trick? Wait, I know! It's a concealed fiber optic cable used to spy on 'naughty' couples looking for some hanky-panky fun in the 'Muzak box'.

10-minute Haircut, Anyone?
I think these speed-service hair salons are getting progressively popular here in Singapore. But it's sad. Have we become so busy that we can't even spare 30 minutes thereabouts for a regular haircut? The last thing I need is a lopsided fuzz (and a heart attack).

The Great Khali
It's abundantly obvious that those talent scouters over at the WWE are obsessed with pituitary gigantism. We had Andre the Giant, then Giant Gonzalez, then the Big Show, and now the Great Khali.
Hailing from the tropical rainforests of India and managed by Daivari, this 7 ft 3 in, 420 lb Punjabi powerhouse purportedly tussled tigers and elephants back home (haha!) before making an impact (read: a huge dent on the Undertaker's skull with a massive overhead chop) in the kayfabe world of professional wrestling.

Lara Veronin
Born and bred in Southern California, it's quite amazing that this 18-year-old Russian-Taiwanese-American is actually the lead female vocalist in one of Formosa's foremost hip-hop groups Nan Quan Mama.
Having a famous mentor like Jay Chou also doesn't hurt. Lara grabbed media attention when the Prince of R&B handpicked her to do a duet (Coral Sea) with him in his sixth album November's Chopin.

Chicken - 7/10 (all good, 'cept not piping hot)
Chilli - 4/10 (sour, and not spicy)

THE VILLAGE
5Cellar door: Noah Percy (Adrien Brody) and Kitty Walker (Judy Greer) take cover from Those We Don't Speak Of in an underground shelter.
"We have always had, since the day we settled here, a gentle understanding with the creatures who live beyond our borders: we do not stray into their woods, they do not come into our village."

Oblivion 2
On January 31, 2006, I did a similar entry about some stray sleeping at the playground. 3This one's bunking away on the wooden bench. For all that's worth, he or she resembles Jerry. Does that mean it's time to break in a newcomer to replace the old-timer?

Under Construction
So it's now becoming increasingly tough to post anything here. At least for this blogger, the said task is as insurmountable as Venerable Shi Ming Yi's (half-successful) 23-storey ascent of the City Plaza building. I digressed. Just what in the world's wrong with Blogger nowadays, huh? Can someone please cue me in?? Or kill me!

Sat right behind this girl at the SOLAR (read: Student's Pass OnLine Application and Registration) seminar held at the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority this afternoon. It was so darn stodgy that I starting fidgeting with my Nokia. And that was when I noticed a Staedtler in this girl's hair!

My Household Chores
Associates of Alan the Manservant often wonder what sort of (nightly) household chores he busies himself with:
(1) Vacuuming + mopping of floors
(2) Wiping of furniture
(3) Sweeping of balcony
(4) Watering of plants
Ironically enough, ironing of clothes ISN'T one of them!

Fiji Mermaid
One of the most intriguing members of the cryptozoology family is this purportedly real-life mermaid washed ashore an islet in Indonesia. Pictures like the one above began to spread like a wild bush fire on the Internet, bringing about much fervor and furor.
As it turned out, however, this grotesque exhibit is nothing more than an elaborate taxidermy work by a local craftsman, who stitched an exotic fish tail to an orangutan torso and topping it off with a monkey head. Damn bo liao, man.

At Vivo with Saffy
Caught a movie with Saffiah at GV VivoCity almost a month ago. After the show, we headed down to the basement Banquet for some Halal food.
I couldn't finish my mee pok (check out those humongous fishballs and fishcake slices), while Saffy the Cat plowed her way through a heap of char kuay teow.

Umagaaa!!
It's no joke. This 'Samoan Bulldozer' and reigning Intercontinental Champion (remember him as Jamal from Three Minute Warning?) will be representing the Chairman of the Board Mr. McMahon for the Battle of the Billionaires (AKA Hair vs Hair match) at April 1st's WrestleMania 23. He will be squaring off against ECW Champion Bobby Lashley (representing - yes - Donald Trump).

Jerry the Model
It's official: Jerry is borderline delusional. It's bad enough that he thinks of himself as a homo sapien (because his favorite eats are actually french fries and fried chicken). Now the Old Furry Grouchy One dreams he's modeling for - ahem - Solvil et Titus. Bleh! Perhaps when his current contract with Whiskas expires...

THE FULL MONTY
5You sexy thing: Gaz (Robert Carlyle, second from left) and his jackleg version of Chip 'n' Dale.
THE FULL MONTY was one of those rare movies (other than SCREAM, JACKIE BROWN and SPIRITED AWAY) that I watched more than once (i.e. twice). Reason: I fell asnooze the first time I sat through it (due to fatique). LOL.
I thought the film, about six out-of-job and out-of-shape steelworkers from the small English town of Sheffield performing a male striptease act to make ends meet, was both moving and motivational (not that I'm toying with that same idea myself).
As such, I don't mind giving it a third go.

An example of excellent service: Attending to shoppers with a smile (albeit not captured in this picture) on a slow CNY Sunday was Filipino Cold Storage cashier Ann (according to her name tag). Wanted very much to say 'Maraming Salamat Po' ('Thank You' in Tagalog) to her.

Petronas Twin Towers
"The Petronas Twin Towers was designed by Cesar Pelli & Associates (USA) in association with KLCC architects. The tower's floor plate design is based on simple Islamic geometric forms of two interlocking squares creating a shape of eight-pointed stars. Upon the eight-pointed stars, are eight superimposed semi-circles softening the inner angles. These semicircles are themselves anchored by the arcs of the main structural columns of the buildings. The semi-circles were superimposed in the inner angles of the interlocked squares to create more usable floor space. The design details continued to dictate the way in which the buildings would rise in as graceful a fashion as possible. To maintain the vertical axis and tapering of the design, each tower is set back five times in its ascent. Architecturally, these forms reflect the paramount Islamic principles of 'unity within unity, harmony, stability and rationality'".

Good tasting chicken chop is as hard to find as a five-leaf clover (it's true!). The best one I've had by far was from The Amara (in my old neighborhood of Tanjong Pagar).
