Director Showcase 3: M. Night Shyamalan

In my modest opinion, writer-director (and huge Steven Spielberg admirer) M. Night Shyamalan has made some of the past decade's most stupefying suspense movies (THE SIXTH SENSE and THE VILLAGE come to mind). Panners have labeled him a 'one-trick pony' for his continuous use of the 'twist' element in his screenplays, but as Jean-Luc Godard once said, "the best way to criticize a film is to make another film". Because talk is cheap.
And what's there to complain about twists in the first place? It's the best damn thing in (his) movies, duh! Does one actually complain about dessert after a hearty meal?
