Singlish

Why are Singaporeans so proud of Singlish (Singapore Vernacular English)? Does it sound nice? Do we feel 'unique' speaking it? One thing's for sure: This creole language isn't proper, and unless one knows how to code-switch between it and Standard English, users may end up being laughing stocks of others.
