Joanna Wang

When it comes to show business families, offsprings either ride on their parents' coattails or dissociate from them altogether. But for brooding 20-year-old Joanna Wang, who was recently anointed Best Newcomer at the Singapore Hit Awards, it's "kind of confusing" - as she proceeded to explain (in perfectly accented American English) that while it's possible to achieve fame and success because her father (whom she refers to as "old man") is renowned Taiwanese music producer Wang Ji-ping, she much prefers to be acknowledged for her exemplary work (her acclaimed debut album Start From Here ascended to #1 in Taiwan and has been popular throughout the Southeast Asian region).
