Old Hag Syndrome (AKA Sleep Paralysis)

Ever experienced the sensation of someone, or something, 'sitting' on your chest while you're sleeping? In Chinese culture it's called 鬼 压 身, but according to pathophysiologists this putative 'paranormal phenomenon' is nothing more than sleep paralysis, a frustrating if "common condition characterized by transient partial or total paralysis of skeletal muscles and areflexia".
